Can I control my HP laptop with my phone?

“I have an HP laptop at home, and I wonder can I control it with my phone, so I can remotely watch TV, play PC games, or access computer files from my iPhone? It would be better if it is for free. Can anyone give me some advice?”

How to control HP laptop with iPhone

In this post, we would like to introduce four tools to you to control HP laptops with iPhone, namely, HP Connected Remote, AnyViewer, RD Client, and Chrome Remote Desktop.

Solution 1. HP Connected Remote

HP Connected Remote is a pre-installed program on select Windows 8 HP computers. The app allows you to wirelessly browse, search, and control media playback on your PC using your phone or tablet. Because HP no longer offers HP Connected Remote, this solution is only applicable to HP computers running Windows 8 that came with the HP Connected Remote program preloaded.

Part 1. Set up HP Connected Remote on your HP laptop

Step 1. Ensure that your computer is connected to the network and that sharing is turned on for the selected network.

Step 2. Search for HP Connected Remote and then open it. Click Settings, and make sure Enable HP Connected Remote is turned On.

Part 2. Pair your iPhone and computer

Step 1. Connect your iPhone to the same Wi-Fi network as the HP laptop. Then open HP Connected Remote mobile app on your iPhone.

Step 2. Then you will see a list of PCs. Tap the name of the laptop you want to pair with.

Step 3. The camera on your iPhone will turn on. Scan the QR code that displays on the laptop screen or manually enter the four-digit number below the QR code.

Step 4. Then you’ve successfully connected to your HP laptop. On your iPhone, you can tap the media player you want to use: iTunes, Windows Media Center, Windows Media Player, or PowerDVD.

Solution 2. Free & secure remote desktop software AnyViewer

The second solution we give here is to use the free third-party remote desktop software AnyViewer, which can be used on both Windows computers and iOS devices. It supports multiple Windows versions and any devices running iOS 10.0 or later. You can also remote access Windows 10 from iPad using AnyViewer.

Part 1. Enable remote access on HP laptop

Step 1. Download, install and launch AnyViewer on the computer.

Download Freeware Win 11/10/8.1/8/7
Secure Download

Step 2. Go to Log in, and then click Sign up. (If you already have signed up on its official website, you can log in directly.)

Step 3. Fill in the signup information.

Step 4. Then you can see you successfully logged in to AnyViewer. Your device will automatically be assigned to the account you've logged in to.

Part 2. Connect to your HP laptop from your iPhone

Step 1. Download AnyViewer for iOS on your iPhone.

Download Freeware iOS 10.0 or later
Secure Download

Step 2. Then all the devices that have been logged in to the same account will be displayed here. Choose the device that you want to control.

Step 3. Click One-click control to achieve unattended remote access to the specific computer.

Step 4. Then you'll be successfully connecting your iPhone to your HP laptop. It supports both vertical and horizontal screens, and you can switch freely.

Solution 3. The Windows built-in RD Client

The third solution is to use the Windows built-in RD Client. Like HP Connected Remote, it requires the two devices to be connected to the same WiFi network. And it requires an IP address and computer name to achieve remote access. Please make sure of these before using it.

Step 1. Download and open RD Client on your iPhone.

Step 2. Click the “+” sign in the upper right corner of the interface, and select Add PC in the pop-up window.

Step 3. Click PC name.

Step 4. Enter the hostname or IP address of the remote computer. (Note that if you specify a different remote desktop port for your computer than the default 3389, you need to specify it as “host:port” or “192.168.1.156:specified port”).

Step 5. Click User Account.

Step 6. If you often need to remotely control a PC from iPhone, it is recommended that you select Add User Account. If you are not, you can choose the default Ask When Required.

Step 7. Back to the main interface and click the IP address icon just created, enter the user name and password of the controlled computer in the pop-up Enter Your User Account window, and click Continue to successfully establish the connection.

Step 8. Then you can control PC from your iPhone.

Solution 4. Google Chrome Remote Desktop

The final solution is to use the Google Chrome Remote Desktop. One thing you need to notice before using it is that you need to log in to the same Google account on the two devices, otherwise you’ll fail to find the computer that you want to connect to on your iPhone.

Part 1. Set up Chrome Remote Desktop on Windows

Step 1. Open the Chrome Remote Desktop web page and click on Access my computer button.

Step 2. Click on the blue download icon to set up remote access.

Step 3. Click on Add to Chrome to add the Chrome Remote Desktop in your Chrome browser.

Step 4. Click on Accept & Install to install it.

Step 5. Enter a name for your computer and then click Next.

Step 6. Choose a PIN with at least 6 numbers, and then enter it twice to start the program.

Part 2. Set up Chrome Remote Desktop App on iPhone

Step 1. On the iPhone, open the Chrome Remote Desktop app and click SIGN IN at the bottom of the screen. In the pop-up window, add or choose to log in to the Google account (please make sure the account is the same as the one logged in to the PC).

Step 2. Then you can see the remote device previously set on the remote PC, click on this remote device.

Step 3. Enter the PIN code you set before, and click the blue arrow button next to it. If you need to use Chrome Remote Desktop very often, you can turn on the Remember my PIN on this device option below.

Step 4. After successfully connecting, you can control the remote PC on the iPhone.
