Can I copy files from Chrome Remote Desktop?

Chrome Remote Desktop (CRD), developed by Google, is a free remote access program that gives users permanent access to another computer with different operating systems. Users use it to fix technical issues or work remotely. During the process, file transfer might be necessary. Thus, many users may wonder if it is possible to copy and paste files in Chrome Remote Desktop and how to complete the task.

How to set up Chrome Remote Desktop for copy-paste

Generally, you can copy and paste in Chrome Remote Desktop as long as you have set up CRD properly.  For detailed steps, keep reading!

Part 1. Connect to another computer via Chrome Remote Desktop 

First of all, you need to initialize a remote session between two computers using CRD. 

Step 1. On the host computer, open the Chrome Remote Desktop download page. Click Remote Support first and then click the blue download button. Then, click Add to Chrome >  Add extension to download Chrome Remote Desktop extension.

Step 2. Click on Accept & Install to install CRD.

Step 3.  Enter a name for your computer and then click Next. Then you set up a PIN with at least 6 numbers for the host computer.

Step 4. On the client computer, open Chrome browser and go to Chrome Remote Desktop access interface, and log into the same Google account.  Here you can see the available remote devices.

Note: To start remote access from mobile devices like iPhone, you need to download the Chrome Remote Desktop app on Google Play. 

Step 5.  Click the computer that you want to access and input this PIN. Then, you can get remote control of it from your local computer. 

Part 2. Enable clipboard synchronization in the CRD session 

Then, you can enable clipboard synchronization and see how to copy and paste in Chrome Remote Desktop. 

Step 1. Open the Option Panel on the right side of the screen. Locate Enable clipboard synchronization, and then click Begin.

Step 2. Then you’ll receive a pop-up window to remind you that Chrome Remote Desktop wants to see text and images copied to the clipboard. Click Allow.

Step 3. Now, you have enabled clipboard synchronization, click OK to start Chrome Remote Desktop copy paste.

Step 4. Then you are able to copy and paste files just using Ctrl + C and Ctrl + V during the CRD session.

If you have enabled clipboard synchronization with Chrome Remote Desktop and copy and paste not working, you can take the following two reasons into consideration: Google Chrome may sometimes block the use of copy and paste on some sites; there's something wrong with your keyboard. To get copy and paste workable again, you can try the following two fixes.

Step 1. Click the button in the upper-right corner, and then click Settings.

Step 3. On the Site Setting page, locate the site of Chrome Remote Desktop. Then click the button where the mouse locates.

Step 4. Then slide your mouse, and you’ll find Clipboard. Change the default setting to Allow. Now you can start Chrome Remote Desktop copy paste.

Fix 2 . Use the on-screen keyboard

 Step 1. Open the Control Panel, locate, and click Easy of Access.

Step 3. Turn on Use the On-Screen Keyboard (or you could also press the Windows logo key + Ctrl + O to turn the On-Screen Keyboard on or off).

Step 4. Then you can use the on-screen keyboard to copy and paste.

Note: Here we take Windows as an example, you can find the on-screen keyboard on your own computer. But notice that not every system has an on-screen keyboard.
