When Does It Make Sense to Replace Quick Assist?

Quick Assist works well for one-off Windows support. However, cross-platform needs, ongoing support, or enterprise-grade security and access controls require a more robust alternative.

What You Need Where Quick Assist Falls Short What to Look for Instead
Return when the user is away Its normal workflow requires the recipient to join and approve the session. Preconfigured unattended access for devices you own or manage.
Help people on different desktop systems Ordinary peer support is Windows-focused. The macOS version is limited to Microsoft Support interactions. Documented support for the specific controller and remote device combination.
Move a file between computers Quick Assist is not a dedicated file-transfer workflow. A file manager or supported transfer function, with clear permissions and plan limits.
Install software with admin approval The helper generally operates with the user’s permissions; some UAC prompts require the user to respond. A documented elevation workflow that preserves your organization’s access policy.
Restrict support to approved staff A session code is not a centrally assigned IT support role. Identity controls, scoped permissions, and useful session records.
Reduce repeated setup friction Account sign-in, app availability, WebView2, and network access can affect the support session. A tested deployment route and a clear connection process for your users.

I like that I can have a free account with my own devices and still support someone remotely that isn't part of my account.
The app is really easy to learn and setup, there aren't any annoying adds or forced license fees.
It really is "free" to use with added functions on purchased feature upgrades.
What is a bit annoying is that my application doesn't keep remembering my login details and i have to log in again after a while.

I've had a great experience with AnyViewer. It's incredibly easy to use, yet still powerful enough to handle everything I need for remote support.
Setup was simple, performance has been reliable, and it makes helping clients fast and stress-free. What really stands out is their support team — even though everything is handled via email, they've been responsive, helpful, and genuinely supportive whenever I've needed assistance.
Highly recommend for anyone looking for a practical, dependable remote access solution.

AnyViewer works perfectly. The UI is clean and transparent. The functions are all there. The pricing of the full version is fair, and there are some special prices coming and going every now and then. The demo version, which I used for a long time, is far more usable than that of the TeamViewer and many others, which I appreciate a lot. I do not see anything better thus far on the market, free or otherwise. Keep up the good work!

I have used another Remote Control program before but me and my family that I support much prefer AnyViewer. The program launches quickly the the view of the remote computer's screen refreshes smoothly. When I'm away from home I enjoy being able to use the portable version of the application on someone else PC.

Clear executable instructions.
"To help someone using TeamViewer, the best option is to have them use the TeamViewer QuickSupport application. This is designed specifically for spontaneous, one-time assistance where they do not need to install software, but can simply run an executable file to give you access."
Simplicity is the key to success.
Thank you TeamViewer peoples!

I liked being able to share my mobile device's screen. Despite having a bit of trouble during setup, I managed to configure it. The downside I found is that the shared screen is just a smidgeon larger than that of my 8" scan tool tablet. I was expecting something a bit closer to my laptop's 15" screen -- at least 11" or so.

The license is too expensive, and the trial period is too short, I cannot realize if it is useful for me or not. Because sometime the connection is unstable and the connection will be lost and I cannot re-login again

I've been using AnyDesk for a few years to stay connected to my devices when traveling for work. It's easy to use, responsive and stable. The support team is also great, they respond promptly when I reach out with issues and I like that they have options for chat support and phone support beyond the normal ticket submissions. I'd highly recommend giving them a try.

Awful. This is what will happen:
You will subscribe, they will auto-renew and arbitrarily raise prices SUBSTANTIALLY. If you unlink paypal, they will send a German debt collector to you. You will not be able to contact Anydesk because they won't answer and their contact form leaves you NO PROOF of contact (ticket or email receipt).
It's basically a well thought out extortion scheme.

Terrible.
As a small company we used to buy Anydesk on a regular basis for 2 years. Our Team of 4 engineers used to parallely work on multiple systems.
Recenly we renewed the same licence, but suddenly our engineers couldnt work on it parallely.. They said parallel connection requries addn purchase and it was due to some issue with their servers we were able to use it. Okay, we understand but shouldnt you reach out to us regrading the same? Instead of trying to sell your licences. Never going back

They make it very hard to cancel your subscription. You have to cancel three months prior to the next billing period,. There is no need to have such long period. It is only used to get an extra year of subscription out of your pocket.
Keep away from these kind of businesses.

I had situations where I could not upkeep an internet connection. Anydesk would keep failing and drop connection causing me to reconnect every time. Zoho helped with the situation right there after and I could keep up the connection and change the Firewall settings and allow internet to an offsite office. keeping connection on LTE WIFI and configuring LAN. it helped a ton, and I was needed to fly to the client. all of this and at the same price I paid for other software with less capability.

Frequently Asked Questions About Quick Assist Alternatives

What is a good free alternative to Quick Assist?

Chrome Remote Desktop is an option for basic personal computer access. AnyViewer also has a free edition. TeamViewer and AnyDesk offer free personal-use options, but work-related support requires checking their commercial-use rules. Choose by the task and current license terms, not by the download button alone.

Can Quick Assist connect without someone accepting?

Its ordinary support workflow requires the recipient to join and approve sharing or control. For repeat access without someone present, use a separately configured unattended-access workflow and obtain authorization for ongoing access.

Does Quick Assist work on a Mac?

Microsoft provides Quick Assist for macOS for interactions with Microsoft Support. It is not a general peer-to-peer Mac support option. For ordinary Windows-to-Mac or Mac-to-Windows support, compare the documented host and controller support of the alternatives.

Does the person receiving Quick Assist support need a Microsoft account?

Microsoft documents account authentication for the helper. The recipient does not need to authenticate in the same way to join the support session, but must enter the code and approve sharing. Do not confuse that workflow with Remote Help, which uses organization identities.

Will another tool let me handle Windows admin prompts?

Some products provide supported elevation or installed-service workflows, but remote control does not automatically grant administrator rights. Test the selected tool with your endpoint policy and a standard-user account. Do not disable UAC to make a support session work.

Is Microsoft Intune Remote Help the same as Quick Assist?

No. Remote Help is a separate organization-focused service with tenant identity, permissions, and licensing prerequisites. Its platform-specific capabilities include eligible unattended Windows workflows. It is not a free drop-in replacement for helping arbitrary external customers.

When should I choose AnyViewer instead of Quick Assist?

Consider AnyViewer when you need attended support together with recurring access to an authorized computer, supported file transfer, or access from a mobile device. Confirm the platform and plan requirements. For an occasional Windows help session, Quick Assist may already meet your needs.

How do file transfer capabilities differ between Quick Assist and third-party tools?

Quick Assist does not include built-in file transfer features. If you need to move documents or support tools during a session, alternatives like AnyViewer, TeamViewer, and AnyDesk offer dedicated file-management interfaces alongside remote screen control.

Can mobile devices be used to control remote computers?

Yes, but capabilities depend on the platform. Tools like AnyViewer, TeamViewer, Chrome Remote Desktop, and AnyDesk provide mobile apps that let iOS or Android devices act as controllers. However, using a mobile device as the host receiving full control is generally limited or restricted by operating system permissions.

What is the difference between attended support and unattended access?

Attended support requires a remote user to be sitting at the target computer to generate a code, grant permission, or accept a connection request. Unattended access allows an authorized administrator to log into a remote machine without local user intervention, which requires a pre-installed service, saved credentials, and administrative privileges.

How do license restrictions affect commercial or business use?

Many remote desktop tools offer free personal tiers, but strictly prohibit commercial or business activity under those plans. Using personal licenses for corporate IT support, client helpdesks, or paid service provision can trigger connection limits or account suspensions. Always verify commercial licensing terms before deploying a tool across an organization.

Why does a remote session disconnect or block control during a UAC prompt?

If a remote control application runs in basic portable mode rather than as an installed system service, Windows User Account Control (UAC) will pause or black out the stream for security reasons when administrative actions are triggered. To interact with UAC prompts, the remote support software must be properly installed as a system service with appropriate administrative rights.

Ready for a Support Workflow Beyond Quick Assist?

Choose the tool that solves your next support task. If you need attended help, repeat access to an authorized computer, and supported file transfer in one place, start with AnyViewer. Complete one test session, check the permissions, and enable ongoing access only where you need it.
